I wish I could answer your question with a yes or no, Myrna, but all I can say now is maybe. I would have said no because I have found no primary evidence that they had a child. Her death notice does not indicate one. However, I found this article in the Portsmouth Times from May 11, 1889:

Cora S. Beren, died at her home in Covington yesterday, May 10th. She leaves a husband and two children. Deceased was the only daughter of T. J. McCollister.

I have found no other information on Cora Beren and I do no know if the mentioned T. J. McCollister is the one who married "Maggie Shellieg". Of course Cora's mother could have been someone else. Even in my case I have been unable to find any record to prove that my grandfather is a son of the above mentioned T.J. but there is high degree of certainty. I hope to have proof of this within the next two months. I was able to find a male relative from a brother of T.J. He is doing a DNA test which should show if we are related. My point here is that it is possible that T.J. Mc... had other children. Is Cora Beren Margret Shelleg's daughter? I have not yet found an answer to that.

Please keep in touch if you find out anything else.
