Amidst family papers was found an obituary for Ebenezer Thomas. His connection is not yet confirmed but believed to be a brother of my great great grandfather, John Thomas who married Ann(a) Dudley. The obituary is quite lengthy and holds glowing praises of this man.
According to his obituary, Ebenezer was born at Gwernlwyd Pembrokeshire, South Wales on February 4, 1841. The son of Thomas Thomas and Sophia Unknown Thomas, Ebenezer was the youngest of seven sons and one daughter. (What was Sophia's maiden name?)
In 1880 he emigrated to the United States where, for a few months, he worked in the anthracite mines at Scranton, Pennsylvania. In the early part of 1881 he removed to Coalton, Jackson County, Ohio. There he resided until his death on February 18, 1924.
Besides the widow, Mrs. Margaret Thomas, there remains to mourn, Mrs. Anna James of Columbus (Ohio), Mrs. Mary Hannah Morris of Lima (Ohio), John E. Thomas of Chillicothe (Ohio) and Mrs. Jennie Watson of Jackson (Ohio). I can only presume that the above mentioned are the children of Ebenezer and Margaret. What was Margaret's maiden name?
Although there should be record at the Ohio Historical Society of Ebenezer's death, there is none. I have searched through all of the death certificates for the month of February, 1924 for Jackson County, Ohio.
I am interested in obtaining census records from Wales for 1841 through 1871 for Thomas Thomas and his wife Sophia as well as any for Ebenezer and his wife Margaret. I do not know who may have access to these records.
I am also interested in obtaining any information on any of the survivors mentioned in the obituary. Thus far I have found nothing.
If anyone is able to assist me in any way, it would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance for any and all help.
