Vikky...good to have your msg. As far as I can tell the Champ families in Ross Co., OH, are descendants of Sgt. Major John Champe m. Phoebe Barnard and also descendants of other children of his father, John Champe of Loudoun, ca. 1722-1814, and what appears to be two wives, Elizabeth Ann Sewell and Sarah DeWitt.

My Champ branch, the one with the Robert who married a Wilburn, seems to have a common ancestor with the Ross Co. Champs, but maybe three or four generations back in Virginia: Stafford or Prince William County or some such. Still trying to place the William Champ who married widow Hanna Miller and appears in Augusta/Fincastle/Botetourt/Montegomery Cos., VA in 1755-76 era and Paint Lick, Garrard/Madison Cos. KY in 1784. In the process I am finding all these other branchs of Champ(e)s. Keep in touch. Bob B.
