Hartmann/Wetzel/Schweitzer Connection
I am researching my maternal line and have come to a dead end.Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. My 2x great-grandmother was MARGARET HARTMANN.She was born 12 Sept 1840 in Lampertheim, Hessendarmstadt, Germany. She was one of several children of JACOB HARTMANN and ELIZABETH WETZEL.I believe that Margaret came to America in 1846, disembarking in New Orleans. She was accompanied by her parents, of course, as well as some siblings.Family lore recites that Margaret's maternal grandparents (the Wetzels) immigrated with them.I have no further information on the Wetzels.
As anyone who does genealogy research knows, the passenger lists of ships arriving at New Orleans prior to 1850 are sketchy, at best.I have been unable to locate a ship with the above-listed passengers.
Family history is that this Wetzel/Hartmann entourage made its way up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, eventually arriving in Chillecothe, Ross County, Ohio, circa 1850.
Margaret Hartmann married JOHN PHILLIP SCHWEITZER in Chillecothe on April 5, 1863. John had, himself, immigrated to America from Germany in 1854, landing in New York City.He moved to Chillecothe in 1860.
If any of this strikes a chord with someone, kindly contact me.Thanks!
