Mrs. Abbott, now deceased, developed the genealogy of John Davis of White Co., IN. In doing so she mistakenly named Catherine Stookey as the wife of John DAvis. This error was probably due to te fact that she found a Deed for John Davis indicating that he was from Hardy Co., VA. We since learned that another, John DAvis, b. in Hardy Co., m. Catherine Stookey in Warren Co., OH.
John Davis of White Co., IN m. Mary E. Newland about 1817/18 in VA [data based on 1883 biography of I. M. Davis, son of John & Mary(Newland)DAvis.
We think John DAvis was b. in present day Taylor Co., WV as that was where his parents lived at the time of his birth - 1800. It is possible he was visiting or working in Hardy Co and that he m. Mary in that area.
Paul Stonum's work is set out in his Stonum & Leach genealogy in Ancestry World Tree Project. My notes indicate that Stonum & Leach ge. includes the family of both John Davises. Does anyone know of their possible relationshp?
