Rufus B. HAYS, Andrew Jackson HAYS, John W. HAYS, William H. HAYS, and George Grant HAYS
Seeking information about the sons of Joseph Hays and Susanna Stoneburner in hopes of clues to the life and whereabouts of my gggrandfather, Catherinous A. Hays.
Although it is not known if any of these five sons lived in Putnam County, Catherinous lived between 1878 and 1880 in Putnam County. It is there that he married both of his wives, Sarah SPITSNAUGLE and Julia JENKINS. It is believed that his older half brother, Erastus MAUK, moved with him from Muskingum to Putnam County.
Rufus B. Hays was born about 1854 in Ohio, and died in East Lynn, Illinois. He had two children: son, Jesse Hays, and daughter, Irma Hays. The 1860 and 1870 censuses show Rufus living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays.
Andrew Jackson Hays was born Mar 1856 in Muskingum County, Ohio. He married (1) Elizabeth UNKNOWN before 1880 in Muskingum County, Ohio. He married (2) Louisa B. UNKNOWN. He has one son, Alonzo Dean Hays (b. 1884). The 1860 and 1870 censuses show Andrew living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays. The 1880 census shows Jackson as head a household in Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, in which Elizabeth is the only other person in the household.
John W. Hays was born about 1858 in Ohio. The 1860 and 1870 censuses show John living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays.
William H. Hays was born Oct 1863 in Ohio, and died in Roseville, Muskingum County, Ohio. He had a daughter, Florence A. Hays. The 1870 and 1880 censuses show William living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays.
George Grant Hays was born about 1867 in Muskingum County, Ohio, and died in Chicago, Illinois. No known children. The 1870 and 1880 censuses show George living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays.
The children of Joseph HAYS and Susanna STONEBURNER are: Gilbert A. Hays (b. 1847), Catherinous A. Hays (b.1849), Mary E. (Hays) FRANCE (b. 1852), Rufus B. Hays (b. 1854), Andrew Jackson Hays (b.1856), John W. Hays (b.1858), Martha (Hays) MAUK (b.1860), William H. Hays (b.1863), George Grant Hays (b.1867), and Seymore E. Hays (b.1868, d. 1892).
