Hi there...I saw your posting and wondered if you checked out Van Wert County Ohio. It is the neighbor county to Putnam Ohio on the n.west side. ACTUALLY a small bump-out portion of Putnam County was originally VAN WERT County prior to the addition of Auglaize County. For some reason when Auglaize was formed, the lines for Allen, Putnam and Van Wert were changed.

This was circa late 1840's. I know this because my family settled in Van Wert County (NORTHEAST CORNER).. the land grant was then redone as Putnam County when the county lines changed. Talk about confusing trying to figure out where to get what!

By the way, I'm thinking there may have been a Wort surname somewhere in Putnam/Van Wert counties.

good luck!
