Todd, My GGG Grandmother Sarah Rock came to Preble county OH in 1821
>after her father John Rock died in Cabaras county, SC. He and his brother
>Robert had came to America from county Antrim, Ireland prior to the American
>Revolution. John was born in 1737 and Sarah in 1791. She apparently had
>relatives there and she was a Covenanter. She converted a young Quaker there
>to the Covenanter faith and married him on June 14, 1825. He was a shoemaker by
>the name of Thomas R. Stevenson who also owned and farmed some land in the
>area. He was born in 1803 in either NJ or SC. I'm
>particularly looking for any mention of Thomas or Sarah's family in the area.
>They lived for several years in Preble county OH and then moved to Morning Sun, Iowa. They had
>five children while living in Ohio and Thomas died in 1854 at Morning Sun, IA
>and his family there moved on to Clarinda, IA about 1856. Most of them are
>buried in the church cemetary there. Are there any lists of members of any of
>these congregations still existing? Sarah Stevenson, William M. Stevenson,
>and Robert Stevenson were charter members of the Clarinda, IA congregation. I
>would appreciate any information that you can share. I have a lot of data on
>this familys decendents but have no ancestors past John and Robert Rock.
>Except perhaps John's wife Catherine McClellan who was supposidly related to
>Maj. General George B. McClellan who was commander of the Army of the Potomic
>at the start of the Civil war. Sarah Rock had the following siblings William, Mary, Robert, Jane (Tippin),Dolly (died at age of one in SC )and Catherine Rock who married a Daniel S. Wilson and had 8 children all born in Preble county. We may well be connected as your William Rock is probally a son of one Sarah's brother William or Robert. Also there is the possibility that he is a Grandson of her uncle Robert Rock. This looks like a good lead. Glen Stevenson Holmen, WI.
