According to John Lewellen's will, his daughters are: Martha Murry (eldest), Caty Mary (2nd daughter), and Sarah Truax (3rd daughter). His sons were: Thomas (eldest), Philip (2nd son), Samuel (3rd), John L. (4th), Dennis (5th), and Daniel (6th son). I have never seen any of the daughters noted by Patsy. I guess, Martha is then Patsy. My husband's line is from Martha, but have never heard or seen her recognized by Patsy. According to "Preble County Pioneers" by Grace Carroll Runyon, "John Lewellen and his wife, Catherine, (DeVall) came from Virginia through Kentucky to Somers Township in 1809 and settled on Paint Creek. They were the parents of ten children. Mr. Lewellen was a patriot of the Revolutionary War of 1812. He was a flour inspector. He was the father of eight children and cem from New Jersey in 1815." Now, what is interesting is that at the beginning of the article he is the father of ten children, and then later in the article he is the father of eight children. ?? I didn't know that he was listed as a patriot by PA. How do I go about finding the "official" papers that will serve as evidence that he was a patriot? I have John Lewellen purchasing land in Preble Co. May 11, 1808. He again purchased land Jan. 18, 1812. This was through the Cincinnati Land Office. I did have John listed in the "Second Census" of Kentucky 1800 in Bullitt Co., tax list date of 8/30/1800. Other Lewellens listed are: Lewallen, Samuel (Washington Co.); Lewallin, Isaac (Nelson Co.); Lewellen, Jacob (Ohio Co.); Lewelling, John (Mercer Co.); Lewelling, Stele (Mercer Co.); and Lewelling, William (Warren). It looks as though John and Catherine did not come with other Lewellens to Kentucky. I would love to see the evidence that others have on the earliest part of life of John Lewellen and Catherine DeVall (DuVall). All I really have evidence on is for Preble County, OH. Thanks for letting me know what you have found. If I ever come across anything new, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks. Debbie
