This bit of HAMLIN African-American History has some missing holes and would love some help to find clues to search from; any assistance would be terrific. Thanks in advance. Background - Daniel and Angaline were both born in NC and assumed to have married there. They had 3 children in NC and 6 more in OH - all born between 1851 and 1872. The HAMLIN family came from North Carolina (no clue yet where to start the search in NC) to Ohio after 1860 but before 1862, prior to the end of the Civil War. This was estimated from the birth places and birth dates of their children. The 1870 census shows that Daniel HAMLIN owned 1500 acres in Gratis, Preble Co, OH, and the family was still there in 1880. In the 1900 census, only found his two sons in Gratis. On the 1887 Plat Map for Preble County, searched for HAMLIN, could not locate his name scanning the microfishe - might need the section the land was in, not just Gratis, Preble Co, OH to help narrow down the search. Ideas? Most importantly though, looking for deaths (obits) and burial sites (cemetery name) of: Daniel Hamblin b abt 1825 NC and his wife Angaline Hamblin b abt 1830 NC I have found them in the 1870 and 1880 census for Gratis, Preble Co, OH and then nothing after. Likely they both died in the county prior to 1900. Also, Found the records of some HAMLIN marriages from the Preble County Room - Very nicely done - many thanks to the transcribers - very helpful. Saw this on the Cemeteries of Preble County - but did not find any transcriptions - http://www.pcdl.lib.oh.us/preble/cemndx.htm Many thanks in advance - R/S MAK Notify Administrator about this message?
