Thanks for your response.

I believe the Thomas Harper, Jr., who married Harriet Paxton is my 2nd great grandfather, that his son George W. Harper, b. 20 Dec. 1852, prob. Greensboro Twp, Henry, IN, is my great grandfather.

I suspect, but haven't proven, that Harriet Paxton Harper d. bet 1860-1861, after the census was taken, and that Thomas Harper, Jr., a physician, married Mary C. Paxton, maiden name unknown, Aug. 6 1861 in IN.

They then, incl. my great grandfather, moved to Richland, Miami, KS where they were counted in the 1870 census.

Thomas, Jr., is not in the 1880 census. His son, George, died in 1880, not long after the census, leaving a widow and 2 very small children.

This doesn't leave much room for Thomas M. Harper marrying Rachel Paxton. It looks like they all ought to be related somehow, but it escapes me how.

I would also like to know James Harper's exact relationship to Thomas Harper, Sr. James' daughter Nettie calls Jane, wife of Thomas, Sr., "Granny Harper." James is the son of Nathan. Is Nathan the son of Thomas, Sr.?
