Dear Steve,

I think we have a family match.

My great grandmother was Jane B. Doty. The initial B was found on the inside of a ring passed on to me by my mother. I believe she was the daughter of Samuel Doty (1810 PA -1859 OH) and Sarah (Sally) Morris, both of whom are buried at Campbellite Cemetery in Butler County. If the census is correct regarding Jane's age, she would have been the step-daughter of Mary Kincaid. In the 1850 US Census I believe she is enumerated twice (age 4 in both cases), living with Samuel and Mary Doty, and living with Keziah Morris (and Joseph Morris age 58, not listed as the head of family). Keziah and a Joseph Morris are also buried at Campbellite Cemetery, however this Joseph's date of death (3 July l850, age 52 yrs) on the Cemetery transcription preceeds the census (August 20, 1850). Jane Dowty also is enumerated as living with Keziah Morris in the 1860 US Census. In 1862, Jane married Harvey Kiger (LDS: Keiger) in Butler County, Ohio. Harvey lived all of his life in Union Township, Union County, Indiana, with his parents, Samuel and Mary Kiger, according to the US Census (1850-1880). Also living with them at one point was Finely Egbert. Jane moved to Union County, Indiana with Harvey after their marriage. After Harvey died in 1886, Jane moved with her children to Madison County, Indiana, where one of her brothers was married, and probably lived.
"A History and Biographical Cyclopaedia of Butler County, Ohio" refers to Samuel Doty, Mrs. Joseph Morris, an H. Kiger (who I believe is my great grandfather), and to Finely Egbert. Both H. Kiger and Finely Egbert were involved with the Odd Fellows' Lodge, No. 224.
I am just beginning to research my Doty lineage. Do you know if the Samuel Doty who owned the Doty Homestead in Butler County, which was once owned by Joseph Morris, is the same Samuel Doty who is the father of Jane and the chlidren listed below?
Do you know who Samuel Doty's parents were? Jesse or Samuel? And who his ancestors were? And the Morris family? I would love any information anyone has to share about this family and any of the other families mentioned.
Also, does anyone know what Keziah Morris' maiden name was?

I have a photograph of Jane Doty Kiger that I would be happy to share.

Thank you for any help you can give me with this family,
Lucy
