Not sure how much this will help. The 1850 census of Adams Illinois shows the following:

James Agard, age 70, farmer born in PA.
Nancy, age 67 born PA
Washington Agard age 22 born OH
ALBERT age 19 born OH
Cynthia age 16 born OH
Watson R age 12 born OH

Also, the 1880 census of Arkansas River Freemont CO lists Albert as a guard at the Penitentiary. One would think that, even in the 1880's, there would be a background check on anyone who worked at a prison. Maybe you can get hold of his job application from the Penitentiary?
I know there were lots of Agard's in early CT..but much of northern OH was part of the "Connecticut Western Reserve" which may be how Albert's parents ended up in Ohio in the first place. Check into lands given as reward for military service to anyone with surname Agard. Good luck.
