Almina BISSELL, dau of Israel and Lucy (HANCOCK) BISSELL, m. Thomas SPAFFORD 15 Feb 1843, at Freedom, Portage county, Ohio.
Just how old Almina was when she married Thomas Spafford is not known. However, considering the birth dates of her siblings, she was probably in her thirties or forties. She came to Portage county, Ohio about 1836, and lived with her brother Israel.
She is known to be listed variously as Almina, Elmira and Elmina.
The above according to "Descendants of Israel-4 Bissel," The American Genealogist vol 27:Oct 1951 page 238.
The Probate record of Thomas Spafford is file 1614, Probate Court, Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio. His will, drawn on 23 October 1859 shows he bequeathed his entire estate to his wife Elmira. The will does not mention any of the children of Thomas Spafford. The probate date can not be determined, but the record shows that the nominated executor of the will declined the appointment on 8 May 1861 which would have been after the death of Thomas Spafford (Probate estate papers, file 1614, Portage County Historical Society).
