Did a quick search of the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors site (www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/) and there were 4 Jeremiah Snyders and 26 John Chapmans that served in Ohio units. You will need more info to find out if they belonged to a certain GAR. If you know the unit, try to find out if there is a local re-enactment group doing that unit. They sometimes know the history of some of the unit members. Also, you could do a "Google" search on GAR to see what is available. You might also try the Portage Co. Historical Society (Betty Oneil is very helpful). They may have something on local GAR halls.
