Sydney, I'm afraid I can't help you with your query, but I wanted to write because I've just discovered that my wife had an ancestor named Rebecca Sue Bissell, born 1807 in Penn. but was at Butler Co, Ohio by 1836, so I'm trying to find who her parents and sibs were by searching in Ohio & Pennsylvania. I notice several Bissell or Bissel householders in Portage Co, Ohio - Now, wanted to ask you if you've tracked your Bissell's to Pennsylvania ? ... and also wonder if you've noticed that at least on the 1840 census at Portage County, OH, there are several indexed as Bissell, but if you view the actual census page, the spelling looks more like BIFSELL. I cannot comprehend how the indexer is so certain these families are all BISSELL instead of what so obviously appears like an "F" instead of the 1st "S" in Bissell. Has your research shed any light on this phenomena? I'll be glad to Email you the census sheets for your viewing if you don't already have them. - Allan Griffith, Bloomington, IL.
