I am researching the Downings in Pike County. Samuel Downing married two Matthews, Margaret and Mary. Matthews bought land from the federal government in the same area as Samuel Downing's relatives. The Matthews apparently came from Ireland very roughly around 1800. No clue where they were before Pike County.

Thomas died in 1833. His wife Sarah died in 1840. This is written in the Bible which survives. I would guess Thomas is a brother of Margaret and Mary. Margaret died in Pike County. Mary first married a Day, then Downing. She died in Illinois.

If this sounds familiar please contact me or post a reply.
