In Reply to: James Heath & Hannah Brown, Circleville OH (1870-1900) by Tambra Turano-Davis of 857

This is James Heath son of Joseph Heath and 2nd wife Elizabeth Bond who married Feb 26, 1824 who are buried in Bradley Cemetery, Madison Co OH where MANY of the oldest headstones are down on the ground broken and illegible. A transcription was done in 1965 which at least saved a lot of the names, but even the transcribers that year said a lot were no longer legible or completely broken. As I recall an earlier posting said James Heath and wife were in the 1840 census in Madison Co OH where his parents were and a lot of his siblings.

Joseph Heath had something like 26 children in 3 marriages. His biosketch says that only 5 children were still living from this 2nd marriage in the 1883 biosketch and James is not mentioned as a living child.

According to the biosketch, between his three wives, Joseph Heath had 26 children during his lifetime.

Who's Who in Monroe, Biographical Sketches:
JOSEPH HEATH, deceased. The subject of this sketch was born August 11, 1784, near Harper's Ferry, Virginia. He was reared on a farm and received the rudiments of education in a district school. On February 20, 1811, he married Margaret Bates, by whom he had seven children. She died in December 1821. About the year 1814 or 1815, he came to Madison County, Ohio, and settled in Monroe Township, from Franklin County, where he had located for a short time. For his second wife he married, on February 26, 1824, Elizabeth Bond, by whom he had ten children, five of whom are now living, viz.: Elizabeth, Mahala, Polly, Margaret, and Joseph R. She departed this life August 26, 1842. He again was married in October, 1847, this time to Catherine Cuples, by whom he has nine chil dren, five now living, viz.: Robert W., Rachel A., Mary C., Noah W., and William L. Mr. Heath served-with the American Army during the war of 1812, against the British. He had served as Trustee of Monroe Township, and departed this life October 6, 1861. His widow survives him, and resides on the homestead, in the southern part of Monroe Township. (Page: 1066)

The History of Madison County Ohio:
Chicago: W.H. Beers & CU.
1883

Three brothers. Jonas. James and Joseph Heath, became settlers here about 1815. Jonas settled on Spring Fork. on the London & Marysville road : James settled in the forks of Little Darby and Spring Fork ; and Joseph settled just north of his brother James. (Page: 759)

My note: Joseph's first wife Margaret died here in Madison Co OH. I believe she is the Margaret Heath who died Dec buried here but the headstone was so deteriorated it was misread. His biosketch said she died Dec 1821. There was no Margaret Heath b. 1801 the way the headstone was read as his first marriage was 1811 to Margaret Bates.

My note:
Brother Jonas Heath is buried in Plumwood Cemetery, OH and his grave is on Find a Grave #15423152.
I have not yet located burial record for James Heath b. 1777 VA, but his wife Mary is buried here, along with a couple of their children and I believe he was buried here.

These brothers (Joseph, Jonas and James) had another brother Israel Heath b. 1773 who married Elizabeth Blue but did not go with them to Ohio. He moved first to Cabell Co VA, then on into Platte Co. MO. His Find a Grave # is 66000425

The 1850 census for Madison Co OH has Joseph and 3rd wife Catherine living with the following children still in the household:
Joseph Heath age 65
Catharine Heath age 25
Andrew I Heath age 18 b OH
Joseph R Heath age 14 b OH
Margaret Heath age 11 b OH
Elizabeth Heath age 7 b OH
Nimrod Heath age 1 b OH
Moses Heath (infant)
Isaiah Heath age 21 b OH
(Living next door was his son Isra
