It has been many years since I wrote the words "John Champe" but the question of his ancestry still fascinates me. As you probably know he was finally given a hero's military funeral in 2001 in a ceremony at Pricketts Fort State Park in West Virginia. No light on his early fore-bearers.

His wife Phebe was also finally granted a pension in 1838 while living in Franklin Co., Ohio, and I believe she died shortly afterwards. I do not know where she was buried but someone who knows the story may pick up on this revived exchange and help with your question.

Google search should provide information re the Prickett Fort ceremony and the pension. Search on their two names.
