In Reply to: Radigan by Michael Radigan of 1065

The first Radigans appear in Perry County in the 1880 census.

James was b. abt 1852 in Ireland and was a clerk in a saloon. His parents were both born in Ireland. His wife Mary was b. abt. 1856 in Ohio. Her father was b. in Ireland and her mother was born in Ohio. Their son James was born in Ohio about Feb of 1880. He is listed as 4/12 year old on June 7, 1880, the day the census was taken. They lived in Shawnee.

Michael Radigan was b. in Ireland about 1849. He was a mineral water maker. His parents were both born in Ireland. His wife was born in Ohio about 1851. Both of her parents were from Ireland. They had an adopted son named John b. abt 1864 in Ohio. They are listed with a servant, Eliza Dunn, and two boarders, Raymond McCraig and Emma Thomas, in the home. They lived in Shawnee.

Timothy Radigan was b. abt 1858 in Ireland. He is listed as "brother-in-law in the home of his sister Mary (b. in Ireland abt 1848) and her husband Thomas McGinniss, also born in Ireland. Mary's children were James b. Ohio abt 1869, Maggie b. Ohio abt 1871, Mary b. Ohio abt 1872, Kate b. Ohio abt 1877, and Michael b. Ohio in May 1880. Also in the home is Thomas' sister, Maggie b. in Ireland abt 1855. They lived in Shawnee. All of the parents of the adults were born in Ireland.

By 1900 the only family listed was that of
James b. Sept 1850 Ireland Coal Miner immigrated 1870
wife Mary b. Jan 1853 Ohio
son James b. Feb 1880 Ohio coal miner
son John b. May 1882 Ohio coal miner
dau Celia? b. Jan 1885 Ohio
dau May b. Feb 1887 Ohio
son Michael b. July 1889 Ohio
dau Loreta b. Apr 1892 Ohio
dau Rosa b. May 1894 Ohio
dau Gertrude b. Apr 1897 Ohio

Says that James does not read or write, but speaks English. The family rents a house.

In the 1910 census Mary is listed as 55 and widowed. Daughter May is now listed as Mary, and all of the children still live with their mother except for Celia.

In 1930 they are no longer listed. There is an Ethel B. Radigan age 39 listed as the daughter of Samuel and Margaret Penrod in Bearfield Twp. With them also is Ethel's son Othel age 8.

That's all of MY notes.
