Obit Leander Crock 1924-2010
CALDWELL - Leander E. Crock, 85, of Caldwell, passed away Tuesday (March 16, 2010) at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born (July 4) in Noble County, a son of the late Roman and Sophia Schafer Crock.
Mr. Crock served and protected his nation in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European Theater. Following his return to Noble County, Lee went on to found and operate several businesses, a few being the Food Center Emporium, Caldwell Lumber, Crock Construction and the Summit Acres Nursing and Rehab and Sunset Hills Housing development.
He enjoyed hunting and traveling. For many years Lee was active in the Noble County Chamber of Commerce, and local and state level politics.
He was a member of St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church in Fulda, and was very passionate about the Feed The Children Program.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Crum; a brother, Joseph Crock; and granddaughter, Roberta Robinson.
Lee is survived by his wife Bonnie Crock of the home, whom he married May 1991; daughters, Judy (Jack) Robinson and Vickie Sawyer, all of Caldwell; sons, Don (Julie) Crock, Dennis (Thomasina) Crock, Edward (Kathy) Crock and Dan (Vanessa) Sawyer, all of Caldwell; grandchildren, Brian, Troy, Jackie and Tyler Robinson, Dominic and Angela Crock, Stephanie Chevalier, Brandon and Ryan Crock, Ranae Hamilton, Jeannette Feldner, Janelle Given and Raymond Smithberger, Wesley, Christopher and Brittany Crock, Annie Binkiewicz, Luke, Jacob and James Reyher, Justin Ayers, Daniel and Derek Sidwell, Bryan and Breanna Sawyer; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian (Tom) Schockling of Caldwell; sister-in-law, Lill Crock of Caldwell. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West St., Caldwell, with a Vigil service at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday (March 20, 2010) at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church in Fulda, with the Rev. Father Thomas Hamm serving as Celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Noble County Veteran Service Organizations will conduct military graveside services.
