Obit Floyd E Thompson 1931-2009
CALDWELL -- Floyd E. Thompson, 77, of Caldwell, died Monday (Jan. 12, 2009) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell.
He was born June 11, 1931, in Harriettsville, son of the late James and Vonnie E. Forshey Hupp.
Mr. Thompson attended the former Macksburg High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having been awarded the Purple Heart, and was a member of the Ohio National Guard.
He was retired from the former Dana Plant in Caldwell. Mr. Thompson was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell and the Caldwell VFW Post 4721. He was a talented musician, having played with Floyd Thompson and the Shenandoah Valley Gang and Connell's Dance Land Band. He also called square dances.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Raymond Hupp; and several brothers-and sisters-in-law.
Surviving are his wife, Charlene P. Lorey Thompson, whom he married Dec. 21, 1953; his children, Barbara Jean (Rick) DeVolld of Columbus, Debra (Tom) Smith of Weatherford, Texas, Mary (Raymond) Rex of Caldwell, Robert E. (Marcia) Thompson of Sherrodsville, Tommy R. (Denise) Thompson of West Layfayette, and Stephen (Lisa) Thompson of Matthews, North Carolina; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several brothers-and sisters-in-law; and his wonderful caregivers and friends at Summit Acres Nursing Home.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Christian Scripture service will follow at 8 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Caldwell, with the Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris serving as celebrant.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Caldwell. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organization.
