I hope you are still online. I am researching the Wagner's of Guernsey and Noble counties. John Wagner md Lydia and had a son, Chalk Wagner, who was born c1875 in WVa. John and Lydia left Ohio after 1880 and are in Nebraska. By 1900 they are in South Dakota.
John Wagner appears to be the son of Elizabeth, the widow, in 1850 and 1860. I think her husband was John in 1840 Beaver Township, Guernsey Co, OH. Isaac and Barnet or Barney are also there. The name is spelled Waggoner in that census.
Barnet or Barney appears to be born bet 1770-80. Isaac appears to be born bet 1780-90. My John is born bet 1810-20 so he could be the son of either.
Elizabeth, the widow, and her possible husband, John, name their first son, Isaac, who was b c1834. So, I lean toward the older Isaac as John's possible father.
In the 1885 Nebraska State Census, Buffalo Co - two of John and Lydia's sons are listed as born in WVa. Chalk c1875 and Francis c1878. They are back in OH by 1880 where Charles c1880 and Florece c1882 are born. They arrived in Nebraska by 1884 when Oliver was born.
Hope we can figure this bunch out! The Wagner's in Deadwood, South Dakota were a well known family who operated a hotel and cafe.
Later... Mary
