Searching for Evidence for McCollister 1890-1910
Posted by: Ronald McCollister (ID *****1468) Date: October 16, 2005 at 17:10:29

In the 1900 census:

McCallister, ??? (first name unreadable but birth date fits)
----------, Lyde (birth year is off by one)

The index on ancestry.com has a number of mistakes in it. The name is given as McCollester although it is perfectly readable on the census as McCallister. The first name of the male is listed as John but can not be determined from the census image. And Lyde is listed as being 33 although the birth year is 1877 which makes her 23.

I am looking for information concerning my grandparents Ulysses Grant McCollister and Lyde (Stedman) McCollister. (They did not actually get married until 1903 in New Lexington.) They are listed as being married for one year on the census.

Their first child was Robert Lee who was born in 1901 or 1902. He may have been born in Nobel Township, Nobel County Ohio. Maybe others also. In 1910 the family is in New Lexingtion.

My grand father was a junk dealer. The 1900 census listed the McCallister as a "Junker" which fits the pattern for my grand father. His nickname of "Peggy" because he had a peg leg.
