She married AMIRAH JACKSON FARNSWORTH, son of DAVID/DANIEL FARNSWORTH and CATHERINE BEAGLE. He was born April 18, 1874 in Indpendence Twp. Washington County, Ohio, and died January 04, 1958 in Zanesville, Ohio Muskingum County.
Notes for ALTA COYLE:
In the 1930 Census, Alta is listed as living in the household of her son inlaw, Clarence Hivnor. She is listed as being widowed, however she was NOT widowed. Alta and Amirah were seperated for awhile.
Information taken from Myra Farnsworth JOHNSON Bible: " ALTA FARNSWORTH, GRANDMOTHER OF 8 CHILDREN DIED MARCH 1940."
Since I was a small child, and would ask questions about who my great grandmother was, I was always told by my mother, Roberta, and her sister Alta, and brother Dewey that Alta (my mother's grandmother) was murdered by a drunken man she was caring for by a blow to the stomach. She is buried in McConnlesville, Ohio.
I haven't been able to find any other information about Alta. (1st documented in 1997)
*******UPDATE********* January 17, 2003****** I just found out who it was that murdered Alta. From a source of someone that knew what happened to her, and the law never did anything to him. The souce is a living descendant of Alta's. He told me the name and occupation of this person who kicked Alta in the stomach, causing her death. I then began researching this and came up with an "exact match" for the name and occupation. According to what I know now, is that Alta worked for an L.E. Miller who had a Taylor shop on Main St. in McConnellsville, Ohio. (Note, that in the 1930 census she was listed as being a laundress for a private family). I have no idea why the law did not arrest him for doing this. The only thing that I can think of is maybe he did some damage to the inside of her stomach that caused the illness in Alta. (See obit). Or maybe he was someone high up in the community.
And, I must add this.........I am sadden to think that such a thing like this could happen. My great-grandmother never got justice.
Everyone in my family of aunts, uncles and grandparents knew that Alta Coyle Farnsworth was murdered, but all they knew was from a man she worked for. See my notes above that I had written in 1997.
ALTA FARNSWORTH'S OBITUARY:
Mrs. Alta Farnsworth, McConnelsville, died at 4 P.M. Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence S. Hivnor, 568 Wayne Avenue (Zanesville) after an illness of three weeks. She was 66.
Born in Caldwell, Mrs. Farnsworth moved to Pennsville, and later to McConnelsville. She was removed to her daughters house early Tuesday. She was a member of Pennsville United Methodist church.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Farnsworth; two daughters, Mrs. Hivnor and Mrs. Mira Johnson of Marietta; four brothers; George Coyle of Nebraska, Ode Coyle of Iowa, and Amos and Willard Coyle of Caldwell; a sister, Miss Maude Coyle of Caldwell; and seven grandchildren. The body has been removed to Mader - Peoples funeral home.
