I lived in Carlisle in the mid 40's to the early 50's and graduated from Summerfield in 1953.I, at one time was a member of the Methodist church in Carlisle. When the town still had a post office the town was called Berne so as not to cause confusion with a city by the same name in Ohio.I believe it was called Berne because of a gas company near the town that was called Berne station.Since the post office is no longer there the name was changed back to Carlisle.I have a copy of a book written by a distant relative called "The Carlisle Story".It lists many of the residents that lived in or near the little town.It has some pictures that show the two churches and other views of the town.I have an article publised in the Daily Jefferson of Cambridge about the town as well. It was the first settlement in Stock Township.I also have an article about a church in a little town that is between Carlisle and Caldwell on Route 78 called East Union.
