Phebe Russell and Lucy Whitaker in 1800s

For some time I have been researching the family of Richard Russell, which appears most clearly in the Morrow County cenesus of 1850.

During that census, Phebe Whitaker, 38 and born in New York, and a girl Lucy, 11 and born in Ohio, lived with Richard. Richard and his wife came from New York, so Phebe is probably their daughter.

Phebe had been divorced from Annas Whitaker by action of the Ohio legislature in 1841 (Senate Journal 1841), accused of adultery with Jefferson Beverstock. LDS records and Paul Clay report that Phebe married secondly to Stephen B. Wallace and had at least one more child named Emma B. Wallace. The paper trail for Phebe and for Emma's line becomes increasingly thin with time.

There is rather good documentation for Lucy Whitaker. From the land office in Delaware, Ohio, Annas Whitaker bought 80 acres on 1 Apr 1824: 24 5-N 17-E 1st PM Sandusky County. And a man named "WHITAKER, ANNAS" was born "74, 8, 14" and died "02/15/1866." He was buried in Leesville Cemetery in Jefferson township, Crawford County, Ohio. ("Leesville Cemetery Jefferson township, Crawford County, Ohio, Surveyed September 2006" at <http://www.buriedsecrets.com/CCCemetery/leesville_cemetery.htm>)

According to LDS records, Lucy married Jeremiah M. Fisher on 22 JAN 1863 in Logan County, Ohio. Jeremiah was living next to Lucy's grandfather Richard during the 1860 census of Zanesfield in Logan County, Ohio. There is a good account of Jeremiah and lucy's life and a list of their living children at <http://files.usgwarchives.org/mo/polk/bios/f2600005.txt>.

Apparently many Fishers went into Mahaska County, Iowa, but I do not know whether they stayed to become part of the population pool. PERHAPS some of my Russells went with the Fishers. I would welcome information about Iowa Mahaska Russells or Fishers.

During the 1870 census of Campbell in Greene County, Missouri, Jeremiah Fisher, 28, was married to Lucy, also 28, and they had these children: Emerson Fisher, 6; Hester Fisher, 4; and James Fisher, 1. Rebecca Fisher, 20, lived with them. James had been born in Missouri, Emerson In Iowa.

More details about Lucy's descendants are given in Michael Werner's site at <http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=werner&id=I35044>, available on January 15, 2009.

I have the ancestry of Phebe Russell's mother back to Plymouth, but I have no ancestry at all for Phebe's father Richard. Phebe's mother was Permelia Deuel/Duell/Duel, daughter of Ebenezer of Easton, New York. (I am willing to share my research about Permelia's ancestry.) I appreciate any help or advice in tracing Richard's ancestry.
