Thanks for your efforts, Thomas. I've found in my research that the name Niebel/Neibel has many configurations. I believe they're all the same name. My German ancestors started out in PA and VA spelling it Niebel, but somewhere along the way in Ohio it was changed to Neibel.

According to the ages of the three Ashton "spinsters" on the 1860 Census, Margaret would have been about 36 years old when the oldest, Mary, was born about 1810. I guess it is unlikely that Margaret was their mother. I still think there is a family connection as they all showed up on Censuses in Van Buren Twp. At this point, I guess I still don't know what the maiden name of my Margaret Ashton was.
