Throwing away one of the "common" made up "openings", with the three brothers, Saxony Germany, ship coming over, and such stuff, - - - - Johann Jakob Rothhomel/Rothommel, sometimes recorded as Rothemmel/Rothamel/Rothhamel, came from the Hessen-Kassel area of Germany, and came to America as a Hession soldier. He was born about 1759/60, and was shipped here with his unit in October 1776. Unlike many of the other Hession soldiers who deserted before Germanys obligation to British were over, he did not desert his unit untill approx May 1783, when such appears on his record. He would remain almost "hidden" untill 1788, and then in 1788 begins to appear on records again. He married Maria Muller, Berks Co Pa.,1789.
Sometime between 1789 and 1793, He had moved to Westmoreland Co Penn, where a more extensive paper trail can be found, as well as church and tax records. He probably comes up with a well known Rev War vet here, because they will travel out of the area about 1803, to Ohio. Two of Jakobs sons will marry two of this veterans daughters.
Not being able to prove the exact date of Hannahs birth leaves up in the air where born. I have always carried her as indicated born 1807, and Catherine as 1804, making these two youngest as born Montgomery Co Ohio. Samuel E. was the last born in Penn, 3 May 1802/3, if Hannah was indeed the youngest?
All of the early "Rhodehamels", regardless of spelling, in Montgomery, Miami, Shelby Counties, as well as a few adjoiners, came from this one "Rhodehammel" family/line.
John Jacob Rhodehamel and Anna Maria Muller children were, Jacob Jr 1789, Anna Elizabeth 1792, John 1793, Henry 1795, Mary 1797, Peter 1799, Samuel E. 1802/3, Catherine 1804, and Hannah (maybe 1807?). With all of these males, one can see why so many Rhodehamels in same area.
Both Jacob Jr, and brother Henry, married McAfee sisters.
That is why, for age, the 1850 census, as well as 1840, are important to your question.
Hope this helps a little. QUESTIONS????
