SHAFFER, OH>IA, ca 1855
Posted by: Jim Lewis Date: July 07, 1999 at 16:08:38

In the summer of 1855, along with others, two SHAFFER families from
Germantown, Montgomery County OH went to Buchanan Co IA. One was William
SHAFFER, his wife, Margaret MONBECK, and two children. The other was his
stepmother, Catherline (maiden name not known)SHAFFER, and 3 of William's
half siblings.

Per various census, William was born in OH, his father, whose name may have
been John or Peter SHAFFER, in VA. Catherline was born in PA, her son Daniel
born IN, and her two girls born in OH.

In 1856 Catherline's dau Elizabeth received $500 from a deceased John
SHAFFER in Montgomery Co OH, but because she was a minor, William was
appointed as her guardian. We don't know John SHAFFER's relationship.

Anyone recognize these folks?"
