I have most recently been working on a family of pioneer settlers in what is now Doddridge County, WV. They arrived at what is now Smithburg in about 1805-06. James Archbold and his wife Ann Kennedy. His older children, Samuel, Ann, Edward, John F. James K. were born in the Baltimore-Washington area. Two younger sons, Israel and Noah were b. in VA. The family was educated; probably at home to begin. Israel and Noah became ordained Methodist preachers. Israel served the Pittsburg Conference in eastern Ohio, inclooding Woodsfield. Noah was assigned the Richmond circuit, and died at the age of 27. Samuel was probably a local pastor in western Harrison County (Doddridge County). Ann was a missionary to the Indians in the West, and made her home in Woodsfield, OH. Mary Bettie married a Methodist pastor/teacher and lived in Woodsfield, Ohio. Edward was an attorney, Mayor of Woodsfield, served in the Ohio General Assembly and on Ohio's Constitutional Convention, then moved on to Nebraska after the Civil War. James K's daughter, Sarah Ann donated land for the Archbold Methodist Church in Smithburg, and also married a minister. Samuel's sons became Methodist ministers and served in West Virginia.
I would be interested in any information concerning this family and their descendants. Also would be interested in the Irish family - James immigrated from Ireland in 1787 to Baltimore. I have no information on Ann's Kennedy ancestors. I would like to have a photo of the Archbold church in Smithburg that was destroyed in a 1950 flood.
I'll appreciate any sources, family stories, photos, etc.
