Michael Burkhart & Rose Caroline Smithberger, OH
Michael Burkhart & Rose Caroline Smithberger, Monroe Co., OH.
There seems to be little doubt that Michael Burkhart married Rose Caroline Smithberger.
The real question is; WHO ARE THE PARENTS of MICHAEL BURKHART?
There are 2 schools of thought.
1) He is the son of Frederick J. Burkhart - b. 25 Mar 1807
2) He is the SON of a CHILD, of Frederick J. Burkhart.
Frederick J. Burkhart - b. 25 Mar 1807
CHILDGeorge Michael Burkhart - b. 25 Feb 183
CHILDMichael B. Burkhart - b. 31 Aug 1866
There is a reference for Rosa Caroline Smithberger married to Michael Burkhart in a book by John V. Kasler and Ralph W. Smithberger, John Vinton Kasler 1911, A History of the Smithberger Family in America 1840 - 1982 Film # 1421818 Item 9,(Marceline, Mo. Walsworth Pub. C. 1983202 pages. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 83-083125), page 51 line 3016.
3016. Rosa Caroline Smithberger was born 18 January 1872, near Marr, Ohio and died 5 Oct 1951. She married Michael Burkhart on 17 April 1894, in St. Henry's Catholic Church, Harriettsville, Ohio. He was born 25 February 1831, in Monroe County and died 16 May 1908. Rosa is buried at Woodsfield, Ohio and Michael is buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Miltonsburg, Ohio.
That source would have him being married at about age 63, not impossible, but very unlikely.
For the school of thought that he is the SON of a CHILD, of Frederick J. Burkhart is the method of matching ages and family members with census records etc. While undocumented there is information that the Michael Burkhart here, had a birth date of 31 Aug 1866.
It would seem like the information from the Smithberger Book is incorrect for the age of Michael Burkhart referenced there.
However many that are following the Frederick J. Burkhart or Smithberger Line should look again at these records.
Hopefully someone can shed some light and resolve this linage.
I will continue to have him as a son of the George Michael Burkhart, son of Frederick J. Burkhart.
Thanks.
