8 Calloway girls adopted out, Piqua, 1920ish, William, Mary Etta
William E. Calloway and wife Mary Etta (Howell or Gardner) Calloway were living in Piqua, Miami, OH for the 1900 census with infant girl Ethel J. According to family they had a total of8 girls; named Ethel, Ellen, Mary, Eva, Vera, Viola, and 2 others (not sure of the birth order, I'm assuming that Ethel was the oldest since no other children were listed on the census). Story has it that the mother died and the father farmed out the girls to other homes, the 2 oldest were old enough to be on their own, the 2 youngest may have been adopted by a family named Smith who owned a greenhouse. That is all that is known.
