A few suggestions.....
LDS Family History Ctrs have Greek records.

You know his b/date, father, and town....try the church.
GOOGLE...Archanes, Crete for more info.

This site looks interesting....

Nick has a SS#....his application should list his parents' names. Form/fees are online. Ancestry.

Most records list b as 1889, but his WWI Draft Reg lists bdate as 1887, so be sure to mention this in your query to Archanes and/or SS Admn.

I know his parents aren't named on his death cert, but perhaps Grace was too distraught to think straight. Do you have his obit? It might contain some relevant info.

Phyl....volunteer
He probably just grazed himself with the 1st shot, hopefully, otherwise I'd be asking questions also. How incapacitated was he by the stroke?? Probably couldn't hold the gun steady.....very sad.
