I am not related and only offer some possibilities.

In 1880, Elias and Mary lived in Salem, Shelby OH with their daughter Anna E. 5, Edward E. 4, Franklin 9/12 and Elias' stepson James DUNSON 10. Everyone was born in OH.

If James was Elias' stepson, then James was either Mary's son or the son of Elias' previous wife. I believe James was Mary's son. The 1900 census may prove that but in the meantime it gets a little confusing!

In the 1870 McArthur Twp., Huntsville post office, Logan, OH is a DUNSON household, consisting of:
Saml. 40, Ann 39, Mary 15, Henry 13 and Daniel FULTON 45.

There is a marriage between Elias BAKER and Mary BALDWIN on 27 Sep 1873 in Shelby County and there is a Mary BALDWIN in the 1870 Jefferson, Shelby, OH census that was 18 and her occupation was "helps mother". The only problem is that the person most likely to be her mother was Rose COTTERMAN.

In 1900, Elias and family are in Blue Creek, Paulding OH:
head, Elias, 49, b Oc 1850, md 27 yrs, farmer
wife, Mary, 48, b Dec 1852?, 7 children, 7 living
son, Franklin, 19, b Aug 1880, farm laborer
son, William, 17, b Jun 1872?, farm laborer
son, Emery, 10, b Mar 1890
dau, Ethel, 15, b Aug 1884

This 1900 census was taken June 8th, so Mary's birth year should be 1851 and William's should be 1881 or 1882. Also, the 1880 census (above) was taken June 8th and Franklin was then 9 months old so his birthyear would have been 1879.

In 1900, Mary said she had 7 living children, who would have been Anna, Edward, Franklin, William, Emery, Ethel and James makes seven.

If you know when/where James died, his death cert may confirm who his parents' were, assuming the informant knew. Other options would be to check Logan County births ca 1870 or Mary BAKER's 1922 obit.

I think Mary whatever her maiden name was, had James DUTSON and may/may not have married his father. Perhaps you know who Elias married.
