Abraham JONES from NJ early 1800s
Looking for data on Abraham, especially. Any other desc. out there?
*J1. Abraham JONES b. in either NJ or VA 12 Oct. 1782, d. 2 Oct. 1851. (His gravestone says he died 2 Oct. 1851 aged 68 yr., 11 mo., 20 da. which would make his birth date 12 - or maybe 13 - Oct. 1782.) The different birth-states are from different census entries of his (VA) and of his children (VA & NJ). If New Jersey, then it is of interest that there are entries for 1810 and 1811 in the NJ Tax Index showing a Samuel Jones living in Westfield. Also, Abraham Jones has entries in Randolph Twp., Morris Co. for 1808, 1809, 1811, 1812, 1813, and 1814; thereafter appears an Abraham Jones in Hanover Twp., Morris Co. in 1815 and 1817.
Note: There are two Abraham Jones men in early Butler Co. with similar birth years. The second m. a Sarah _____ . This second Abraham is buried with his wife Sarah and other family members in Reily Twp. (Indian Creek Baptist Church) and is probably the one who was there in 1807.
Both our Abraham's birth date and his wife's are not really reflected in the 1850 Census:
Jones Abram 60 m VA
Rebecca 50 f " (!)
Abram 23 m O
Washington 21 m O
Francis 21 m O

He (Abraham Jones) was a farmer in New Jersey; before he was married and had a family (sic), he moved to Butler County, Ohio where he engaged in farming and manufacturing brick. At a later date he removed to Darke County and settled in what is now Gibson township, , Mercer County, being among the first settlers. At that time this whole country was yet covered with a heavy growth of timber. He died on this farm when about 65 years old. His wife Rebecca Pierson, a native (sic) of Butler County, Ohio, survived him many years, dying at the age of 92. Of their large family, these names have been preserved: Sallie Ann, who was the wife of Isaac Foster; Edward...; Washington and Francis (twins); Margaret, who was the wife of Amos Keller; Abbie, who was the wife of Jacob Replogle; Betsey, who was the wife of Benjamin Misner; and James, the only survivor (1907), who married Minerva Keltner and now lives on the homestead farm in Gibson township.

*Rebecca Pierson - born Westfield, Union Co., NJ (NJ per census records for 1860 for her children's 'parent's birthplace') around Christmas of 1791, daughter of Squire and Nancy (DeCamp) Pierson. She d. in 1883.
Both Abraham Jones and his spouse Rebecca (Pierson) Jones are buried in Green Mound Cemetery in Mercer Co., OH, a few miles west of Ft. Recovery. They had moved to the farm there in 1835 when they left Butler Co.. Their daughter, Sallie, was born around 1812 in New Jersey, so this Jones family probably moved to OH around 1816 as indicated below. Rebecca's grandfather, Moses De Camp, may have beeen already in OH when the family came out.

The record of the Pierson family is somewhat brief and imperfect. The first emigration was from England to Boston or Lynn, Mass., about A.D. 1635, and from there to Southampton, L.I., which place they with others founded A.D. 1640. Two brothers are named, Rev. Abraham Pierson and Henry Pierson. Dissatisfaction arose, and Rev. Abraham Pierson and a part of the colony removed to Connecticut and afterwards to Newark, N. J., which city they founded. Henry Pierson remained at Southampton, L.I., and some of his descendants emigrated to Westfield, N. J., and the names of these are recorded among the early settlers, viz.: William, Daniel, and David. David Pierson married Esther Bailey, [original says Badgley] and they had eight children: 1, Stephen, born Feb. 10, 1763; 2, Hannah, born Nov.2, 1765; 3, Squire, born April 20, 1767; 4, David, born Aug. 28, 1770; 5, Moses (1st), born Oct. 9, 1774; 6, Moses (2nd), born Oct. 15, 1776; 7, Samuel, born Aug. 6, 1778; 8, Daniel, born Jan. 1, 1783. David, their father was born Feb. 10, 1737 and died 1790.
The Pierson family are of English extraction, and for successive generations have resided in Westfield Township. The grandfather of (Squire) and Moses, who had among his children a son Squire, whose early life was spent in Westfield. Having determined in 1816 to explore the boundless resources of the great West, he ultimately located in Butler County, Ohio, then regarded, with a few exceptions, as the extreme point of Western civilization. He married a Miss De Camp, of French descent, and had children, - Moses, Squire, David Stephen, Hiram, Mary, Sally, and Rebecca .
