I have also been trying to make this connection, but don't have anything definitive yet.
RE: A G Branch, this is Almarien G Branch who married Abigail Washburn McCoun (sometimes referred to in records as A W Branch)on 9/23/1849 in Scioto County (Portsmouth) Ohio.
Almarien died in 1854. He had three sons - Charles O. (my great grandfather), Albert A., and Harry (who died as an infant).
