Hi!I have for many years been attempting to search out the natural parents/siblings of my Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Myers. Born March 15, 1887 in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, the youngest of 8 children to a "Mrs. Myers" and "an Indian", Elizabeth (aka Lizzie) stated that she and her siblings who were "too young to go out on their own" were placed in an orphanage when their mother remarried a gentleman who did not want the responsibility of raising the children. Gramma stated that she went into the "orphanage" and the older girls went into the "Canton Girls Home" and the older boys went into the "Canton Boys Home". From what she described it sounds to me like she was actually referring to the Stark County FAIRMONT CHILDREN'S HOME which consisted of three different buildings ~ one for babies, one for boys and one for girls. Nonetheless, she remained in the orphanage until she was "adopted out" to a family by the name of Hiscox (Alfred and Frances)that lived in Medina County, Ohio. From the way she described the family setting I believe she was actually indentured out... . But anyway, I have never been able to locate either a birth certificate or adoption papers. Thus I am hoping that possibly her siblings may have passed down a similar story to their descendants and someone out there will recognize the names and places in Gramma's story. According to Gramma the family of origin originally consisted of four boys and four girls (including herself). Should any of this sound familiar, please feel free to e-mail me @ email@example.com.
Thanks a lot ~ and good luck in your own search!
