Rotheus Devin was the adopted parent of my great grandmother, Lillie Belle Randolph who married Charles Joseph Houts in Seville, Medina County, Ohio on July 31, 1885 using the name Lillie Belle Devin. The Devins lived next door to the Houts family.
From family information I have on Rotheus, he was a musician who served in the Union Army as a Captain who was captured and imprisoned at Andersonville, returning home after the war (none of this may be accurate however as my source ascribed the status of captain and Andersonville imprisonment to her real father, Henry T. Randolph of Akron, Ohio, but this wasn't true of him so it may be likely that the story got assigned to the wrong father figure).
Evidently, my aunt has a small bible given to R.W. Devin by his wife Julia M.(Stoaks) Devin (L.D.S. records show marriage on January 1, 1857 in Medina, Medina Co., Ohio)when he was leaving to "aid in putting down the rebellion" on November 11, 1861.
Page 297 of the Medina County 1850 US Federal Census lists a Rotheus Devine of Guilford Township.
A second marriage is recorded on November 11, 1885 to Mary Batty.
In the Special Census of Civil War Veterans in 1890, Devin, Rotheus, Musician, Reg. Band, Ohio is listed.
