I have a marriage record for Fortunatus in 1870 when he married Mary Rimler Shammo in Halifax PA, Mary was his first wife and my grandfather's mother and the only child of Fortunatus. She died in Roanoke VA in 1898. She was not a well person and suffered from severe arthritis. The 1880 census shows Fortunatus and Mary and son in Mt. Carmel, Northumberland County PA
I have a record of him going to Switzerland in 1909 and arrivig back in NY on the Grosser Kurfuerst. Marital status U, which I am assuming this meant unmarried.
Do you have Fortunatus in your family? If not, what is your interest besides helping me? The reason I am asking is that this was quite an unusual man and I have some newspaper articles about how he lost his son and found him.
Joanne
