Does anyone know what brought the Irish to Marion Ohio in the 1870's? My great grandparents came to Pennsylvania first to the coal mine area in Schuylkill County in 1870 from County Mayo Ireland, and then during the time of the Molly Maguires they came to Marion in 1877. I don't know if the quarry owners paid for them to come here, or how they knew to come to Marion for work. It is possible that they had other family here, but I don't know who they would have been. Their names were Patrick and Ellen (Gaughan) Barrett, and their children were Michael Barrett, John (Jack) Barrett, Patrick Barrett Jr, and Ellen (Helen, Nellie) Barrett Robbins, My grandmother. Would love to hear other Irish stories from Marion Ohio or Schuylkill County PA. Thanks!
