Thank you for your reply. The reason the birthdate for John is 1860/1861 is that the Lutheran Church records indicate 1860, however, a hand-written note by John's wife indicates the birthdate as 1861. Also, the obituary indicates the birth as 24 Aug 1860 in Brålanda (this info was supplied by Bo Björklund from AM-SV TRIBUNEN).
As for August, the only birth info comes from the 1900 Census were he states he was b. in Nov 1866; however, it would not suprise me if the census enumerator made a mistake (but the "mistake" is consistent throughtout the subsequent censuses).
It is interesting that the family of Anders Johansson and Casja Magnusdotter has an Augusta, plus John's eldest son's name was Andreas/Andres (could be a misspelled Anders).
This family "feels" right.
