LDS Ancestral File has a Philip Gilbert b.abt.1742 & d."bef.1797" in Adams Co., PA, who is (with Maria Gertrude, b.abt.1744 PA) the parent of a Johann Jacob Gilbert, b.1767 & d.abt.1834 in Mahoning Co., OH. This Jacob, who md. Maria Elizabetha bef.1788 in PA, was the father -- all by the Ancestral File pedigree chart -- of John Gilbert, b. 22 Apr.1798 & bp. 10 June 1798 at Littlestown, Adams Co., PA, and who md. Catharine Hively on 24 Jan. 1822.

I cannot vouch for the Ancestral File information, but I can say that the baptisms of seven children of Johanes & Catharina Gilbert are to be found in:
GOOD HOPE CHURCH: Records of the German Lutheran and Reformed Congregations; Beaver Township, Mahoning County, Ohio; 1815-1895, published by Simon Homestead Books, 430 Indianola Rd., Boardman, OH 44512 The church register was in German.

My wife descends from one of these seven children. The Hively family is well-researched and has a family association, but the Gilbert family does not enjoy the same standing, so far as I can tell. Can anyone add to this? Thanks!
