I am referring to the line of Gen. George Armstrong Custer. My gr gr grandfather, Joseph Custer, Brookfield, Trumbull Co., OH d. before 08 Apr 1837. The General was b. in 1839. My ancestor was dead about two years before the General's birth.

Joseph either belongs to Emanuel Custer, the Gen. gr grandfather, or my gr gr grandfather is a son of John Custer who (may???) have m. 1.Anne Miller 2. Catherine Valentine. I am looking for absolute proof of the line Joseph Custer was b. to. The Dutch Ridge was North of where my ancestor had his farm. I have been there on the farm two different years, (1986 and 1994.)

I have most of the legal records for Joseph Custer and have researched the tax records of Trumbull Co., OH for all Custer information available on them 1800 through the 1837 time frame. I can't prove further back than 1826 for Joseph. John Custer was there in Trumbull Co., 1815-1820. Emanuel Custen was on Federal Census, 1820, Mercer Co., PA.

Joseph's son, Samuel, was b. c1825, at Hartford, Trumbull Co., OH. He was the 3d son of Joseph Custer.
My gr grandfather, Judah Custer, was b. at Brookfield 1830, the year that the General's father was found frozen to death on the Cumberland Rd. in MD.
