what was Presque Isle c.1890?

Please help. My ancestors are listed in 1889-1890 directory as living w.s. (which I assume to be west side of) Presque Isle 2nd house s. of Wiseman. What the heck are they referring to?? I know they lived in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties back then.
