Hi Pat:
I was aware of John Stroup's marriage to Isabel Withrow, but not of the prior marriage to Rebecca (surname unknown). [This John Stroup was son of John Sr. and Mary (nee Steely) Stroup, not the other John Stroup who married Isabella Hume.]

re: Shoup/Shaub surname. I tend to pass over this surname, because my Stroup line consistently spelled their name "Stroup." Instances where an "e" gets tacked on, as in Stroupe, or where the name was spelled Strapp or some other significantly different variant tend to be transcription errors or "mispellings" by non-family recorders.

Beers' 1883 History of Madison Co. tells me that George, Gideon, and Lancisco were brothers, who initially came to Madison Co. with their parents. [I found some "Peck surname" information collectors who say that the parents were Henry and Hagar (nee Carr) Peck. Lancisco married Polly Melvin in 1829 and a George Peck married Elizabeth Kelso in 1850. I haven't found a marriage record for Gideon and Deborah, but the Peck researchers generally report his wife's name as: "Deborah Kilgower" which is consistent with my belief that Gideon married Capt. James and Sarah (nee Hutson) Kilgore's daughter, Deborah.

Gideon and Deborah had no less than the following children: James C. (md. Sarah C. Cunningham, 1866); Sarah J. (md. Clinton Rayburn, 1852); Emily "Emma" (md. Uriah S. Hussey, 1861, and moved to White Co., Indiana); Hagar E. (I haven't confirmed it but believe that she died young and unmarried); Clara Victoria (md. James Withrow, 1865), and John S.
