I'm guess I'm going to have to get out of my chair and go to the LDS Family History Center after all, to see what they have for Madison Co. OH. I checked the Madison Co. on-line Probate Index and didn't find anything under the Kilgore surname before 1898.

Denton Trivia:
(1) James Denton, md. Drusilla Peterson 26 Jan 1832 in Clark Co. OH; children: Peter md. Mary E. Thompson, Absolam, James M., Matthew A., Isabella (died young), and Matilda md. Ruben Slaughter. James Sr. died 19 Nov 1886. Obit says: "When quite a child his father removed his family from this county to a frontier settlement called Huntsville on the Wabash river in Indiana. Soon after the Indian troubles arose and the most atrocious depredations were committed by the red-skins, compelling the settlers to fly to the forts for safety. Before the helpless residents of Huntsville could leave, the Indians attacked the settlement and massacred all, burning and plundering without mercy. Mr. Hutson, a relative of Aus. Hutson, and family were murdered and Mr. Denton's father was also killed in the posse following the murderers. The latter's wife and three children, among whom was James, our subject, fortunately escaped and was brought back to Ohio, the little ones being placed in a bed tick and carried on a pack horse, led by old Uncle Samuel Hornbeck, who fallowed the mother, doing scout work along the Indian trails ahead of her previous progeny."

(2) Henry Kilgore biographical sketch (Beers' History of Madison Co. Ohio) says, of Henry's mother, Sarah (nee Hutson) formerly Denton, later Kilgore:
"She departed this life November 2, 1872, ... leaving behind a family of eight children, thirty-eight grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and one of the fifth generation."
You name five children: Alfred, Deborah, Isaac, Henry, and Martha. This is the list of Sarah and Jame's children given in biographical sketch of Alfred Kilgore (Beers' History of Madison Co. Ohio). I believe that there was another, Samuel, who appears in the 1850 census:
James (59yr), Sarah (61yr), Samuel (28yr), Alfred (26yr), Henry (22yr), and Martha (18yr).
Samuel married Amanda Hamilton, 23 Jun 1858 in Madison Co. Ohio. I believe an obit for Amanda exists: 1863, and that Samuel married a 2nd time: Mary L. (surname unknown). An obit exists for Samuel, either 1875 or 1877. Widow Mary and daughter Florence are in 1880 census.
I believe Deborah (35yr) married Gideon Peck and was in . Isaac (33yr) married Susan Tibbets 17 Dec 1840 in Clark Co. Ohio, and was in Richmond, McHenry Co., Illinois at censustime 1850.
In other words, if Sarah "left eight children" in 1872, and Deborah, Isaac, Samuel, Alfred, Henry, and Martha were six of those eight children, then:
(a) Either Drusilla (nee Peterson) Denton's husband, James, and Joseph Stroup's wife, Jane (nee Denton), were the other two children Sarah Kilgore left behind,
(b) Or Drusilla (nee Peterson) Denton's husband, James, was one of the other two children Sarah Kilgore left behind and my Jane (nee Denton) Stroup may or may not have been the other of the other two children Sarah left behind,
(b) Or the Kilgore kids didn't include James and Jane in the count, in which case Capt. James and Sarah Kilgore had two other kids that were alive in 1872 but not in 1883, when the Beers' History of Madison Co. was published.
I think (c) is the most unlikely of the possibilities, in which case: one of the three children of Jonathan and Sarah (nee Huston) Denton/Kilgore was dead before 1872, with or without spouse and/or children.
I think I'm going to try to list all of Sarah's descendants as well as I can and see what I can come up with. Reason: I know for a fact that Joseph and Jane (nee Denton) Stroup had one great-grandchild, Stella May Purdy, born 25 Jun 1871. If Jane Stroup was one of Sarah Kilgore's Denton-kids, Stella May would have been Sarah's great-great-granddaughter. The question a list of Sarah's descendants may answer is: Who else among Sarah's descendants might the one "fifth generation" child have been? If I find one, then it's less likely that my Jane Denton was one of Sarah's children. On the other hand, if Stella May Purdy is the only possible great-great-grandkid, then it's very likely that my Jane Denton was one of Sarah's children.
Of course, if I come across some document that names Sarah's kids at the time of her death, in 1872, I'll save myself some effort in constructing a haystack to put my "Stella May Purdy" needle in. :)
