Early adoption records?
I am trying to get a clue or two about how to research early adoption records in Lucas Co. Any hints or help would be very appreciated.
Somewhere probably around 1870/1880, a Frank Salisbury, age between 10 and 20, was 'taken in' by a maternal uncle, William Ward. For a number of reasons, we feel that there was a legal adoption.
Does anyone know...... Are records as early as this one still retained by the probate court? Or have they been transferred elsewhere? Perhaps to the state? Are there transcriptions or microfilmed copies available through a different office or organization?
What kind of red-tape hurdles are ahead? Despite the fact that this Frank was b cir 1860, do we need to present a copy of the death certificate? [This happens.....] Etc, etc, etc.
Any information on how to go about getting copies of these adoption records would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
