Raymond was probably born in Scioto Co. OH. The 1900 census in Valley Twp., Scioto, OH shows this VIOLET family:
head,John, 28, b Sep 1871, md 5 yr, OH OH OH, farmer
wife, Lizzy, 29, b Dec 1870, 1 child, living, OH OH PA
son, Raymond, 2, b May 1898, OH.

By 1910, John S. and Lizzie D. have 3 more sons; John C. (aka Charles J) 7, For(r)est C. 4 and Arlyn E. 2.

In 1920 John was a widow; Lizzie d Apr 1919 in Scioto County. In 1930, John is married to Catherine and Forest and Arlyn are still in the household in Scioto County.

Going back, John S. is in the 1880 census in Harrison, Scioto, OH. The household consisted of:
self, John M. 60, OH VA OH, grocer/farmer
wife, Caroline 55, OH MD CT, keeping house
dau, "Cady" L., 12, OH
son, John S., 8, OH

In 1870, there is no Cady but there is a Caroline, then age 3. Also living with John and Caroline is a Rosanna DEWEY 72 widow OH, who I thought could have been Caroline's mother but apparently not if Caroline was correct in saying her mother was born in CT, in the 1880 census.

I'll look for Raymond's obit next week.
