Need Census Lookup - John Dowdell
Mary Curtis 2/04/07
Dear Mary:
First, is Curtis your married name, and if so does your husband also have ancestors from Lorain County? We have a Sheldon > Obitts > Forbes > Curtis connection, some of them at rest in the LaGrange Twp. Cemetery. Just Curious.
Second, a question:I understand that your father’s real surname was Altmeyer from your messages. Is this correct?
Third, my usual DISCLAIMER:The following is all subject to your verification. It is pieced together from documentation that, by itself, would not be considered substantial enough to support a proper genealogical outline. It is only provided here to begin to organize “what you know” and then to help you with further leads to verify from the usual accepted sources. In other words, the following would be considered “poor” genealogy, but then it will hopefully open up some doors for you.
Fourth, I’m having difficulty finding this Altmeyer family in the 1900 US Census, which would be helpful.
Fifth, and now onto the attempt to organize some of your family history… I’m putting together the following based on (a) your first and second messages, (b) my initial research with obituaries and so on, and (c) some additional census look-ups and tidbit findings.

(One of the above may be the Father of James, or there is another child not noted in Byron’s obituary. One of the above may be “Mrs. Lillian _______” referred to in Louis S. Altmeyer’s Obituary).
[Note: Peter K (head) is living in Lorain Ward 1, Lorain County, OH, per the 1910 US Census, married to Ella (wife) and living with Byron (brother) and Verne (brother).

Generation Two
(Your) Grandfather Altmeyer – b unknown – d. unknown in Train Wreck (between 1910 & 1920)
Grandmother – b. unknown – d. unknown (possibly Margaret Murphy (above), but you are not sure).
Children (all went out for adoption at father’s death – 3 boys and 2 girls):

[Note, I find a Louis Altmeyer b. Missouri living with Katherine b. Ohio both age 42 in the 1930 US Census, with daughter Katherine age 8 b. Ohio, living with Lillian Walker, age 60, in Holdenville, Hughes, Oklahoma – just a notation because the names line up, as well as “Lillian” referred to in Louis S.’s obituary reference].
Can you fill in any of the blanks?I hope this helps a little bit. Please let me know if you have any questions about the above.
Best regards.
Jack
